I would class this trip as one of the best I've had it was so breath-taking, London truly is magnificent. I was lucky enough to go to London, I was trigger happy with my camera! I visited the House of Commons and the House of Lords each room had its own unique history behind it. Later, I visited Trafalgar Square and then saw the Olympic Clock! Oh wow it was so cool. Then we went on to see the throne that the Queen of England sits on during debates in the House of Lords. We then proceeded to learn about the civil war that was caused by Charles I, what was really intriguing was seeing the real-life death warrant for Charles I, truly fascinating. The best part I would have to say was seeing Oliver Cromwell's signature, for me right there, history really came alive. I loved spending the day at London and learning about
It's history, all in all, a great day!
Fantastic. The book is based in Perdido Beach, America. It's about a town which has been incased in a mysterious, impenetrable bubble, every one above 15 years old has simply vanished, some kids develop supernatural powers and there's an ominous evil who strives to undermine the kids.

The main reason this series is so captivating is the fact that it address issues such as racism, sexuality etc in such an intricate manner. The book is predominantly based on 'survival of the fittest' the strong survive whilst the weak do not. It's similar to Lord Of The Flies.
This series is a HUGE recommend!

Over the weekend I participated in the DofE, it consists of hiking/walking over 15 miles, camping and cooking your own food. It was set in Shropshire near Wales. There are three levels that you can do: bronze, silver and gold, you start from bronze then gradually progress onwards. At each level you get assessed on map reading, setting up your tent etc. For my bronze group we get assessed in September, but over the weekend we did a pratice to help prepare ourselves, here's what happened:
Everyone had to be in school on Saturday by 8:30am, then we set of for 'sunny' Shropshire, we then arrived at our start point. We were to walk 7.5 miles to our campsite, whilst carrying all our equipment. So we set of, our teachers warned us to pace ourselves as it wasn't a race BUT to us, it was! Imagine four groups all racing to get to one destination that's 7.5 miles away.. carnage. We got lost, one of my group members had a knee problem and we were currently in last position in this fictious race. None the less we moved on, spotted a group and absolutely ran to overtake them. In the end we came second, turns out two of the other groups got lost! They walked one extra mile than they needed! The general mood of everybody was pretty good. So far it was set to becoming a very good weekend!

Here goes..

Ok, so as part of a push to urge talented students to apply to top universitys such as Cambridge the top 10% students in our year were selected to go on this trip. It was a 3 hour! Coach ride to to Girton Cambridge, the coach ride to the place was just amazing! The banter was flowing, everyone was just generally happy and excited. Plus me and my friend had a competition on who would get the furthest on Temple Run... I WON!
765,000! Here's what happened at Cambridge: We were told what we had to do in order to get into a university like Cambridge, we then engaged in an activity that showed how to deal with student life and how to manage our time as university students. Then we went on a tour around Girton, it was so cool, here's the uploaded picture of the cathedral, It's a bit lopsided, i'm no photographer.
Anyways, we checked out artifacts dating to the 15 century. We hopped back on the coach and returned to school, it was raining so my teacher shared her umbrella with me, the banter was phenomenal!
Overall, it was the best trip EVER!

I actually really enjoyed it, especially the story line, it has remained consistant all the way through. I won't give away major details but a whole other side regarding the Capital and the districts has been opened up and there's a MAJOR twist that I wasn't expecting at all! For those who have read it I'm sure you know what I mean. Overall I found the book really thrilling, the characters remained as mysterious as ever and I am thoroughly astounded by how complex Suzanne Collins has designed some characters in this book. The love triangle between Katnis, Peeta and Gale intensifies, and of course the choice of who she wants to be with: Peeta or Gale, Ah, the troubles of a teenager!

On to the third installment now: Mocking Jay
Really looking foward to it!

I did six in the space of 2-3 weeks; They were: English Language, English Literature, ICT/IT, Maths, Biology and Business Studies. They were all GCSE's. So, over the next few days my posts will be mainly centered on how hard each exam was and how I think I did and generally how my class mates found them. It was the first time doing GCSE's so my days and others consisted of REVISION. I hope you enjoy reading about my experiences and feel free to drop hints for the next round of exams which is next year THANKFULLY.

Author: Steven D. Levit & Stephen J. Dubner
One of my friends introduced me to this book, I thanked him for it because this book is so great. Here's why: the book causes you to think in a way you wouldn't have before, it asks obscure questions and generally just causes pushes the boundaries of how you think, it's won various awards, so the book and the authors have been recognised for how outstanding they both are. If you loved Freakonomics after reading then guess what? YES. SuperFreakonomics, the sequal! I haven't had the chance of reading ot but if it's anything like the first one, then guarantee it'll be great.

If any of you guys have read any or both, leave a comment to tell me how you found it!

It's next week! The exams are based on two world wide famous books: Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, it is set during the American Depression when it was very difficult to get work so many resulted to work on ranches. The second book: Animal Farm by George Orwell is based on the revolution that turned Russia into a communist country, the various animals represent key real-life figures during the revolution. I haven't had any major concerns regarding the books or the exam so i'm feeling happy/confident. I'm so ready for this!

It might be quite a drag to some people to go to a book retailers I.e. Waterstones or WH Smith that's before I discovered Amazon, it's so convinient, I recently ordered a couple of books through Amazon and I haven't had a single problem. The problem I find in ordering books from book retailers like Waterstones or WH Smith is that the books I actually want are rarely in stock; much to often have I had this problem and after a while it becomes extremely annoying. It's also not limited to books you can order a miscellaneous of 'STUFF' all in the comfort of your own home. Amazing. I suggest you use Amazon to order your books from now on because compared to book retailers, they surpass them ten fold. Amazon 'FTW!'

I believe the way to expand your vocabulary is to read, read and read some more, if you already do this then Brilliant! If you don't, start now. As you read you will encounter words that you will not known the meaning of, so when this happens, look up that particular word and commit it to memory. I downloaded a dictionary app called Dictionary.com, it has an inbuilt 'word of the day' system and it also had q function that allowed me to put words on my favourites list. This is how I mostly expand my vocabulary. I also believe it is the most effective.
So try it out and give me some feedback.

So far there's no flaw as far as I can tell, I've got nothing but positives to say! I won't reveal anything incase some of you are yet to read it. It's so easy to get into the book, the relationship between Katniss and Peeta intensifies! Catching Fire is basically the lead up to the imminent 'Rebellion' that we've all been waiting for! I'm at the part where Gale's wounds are being tended to and Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch have just seen the revamping of district 12: new peackeepers and the black market being burned down, i'm just anticipating the clever plans that will be concocted in order to protect Katniss's loved ones. I will have to say I applaude Suzanne Collins, she incorporates some clever: imagery, and descriptive language effectively, i guess that's why its so easy to conjure it all up in your head with minimal ease.
I probably should get back to reading the book!

Flaw! When Katniss is isolated in the tree and the careers are trying to kill her, why don't the careers burn the tree down with the fire they use to make for warmth or chop down the tree, the only attempt to kill Katniss was by them shooting a couple of arrows and then Cato climbing the tree and falling down. Also, the Hunger Games is a concept that comprises of 24 teenagers enter an arena and seek our to kill the other 23 tributes, when they decide to wait Katniss out, all the careers waiting for Katniss in the tree decide to fall asleep AT THE SAME TIME! Taking that into account it was an alliance but surely atleast one of them should have woken up and killed every single one of then, seeing as in the end there can only be one winner. This particular section baffled me but overall it was a good book. If your a picky reader and you don't like flaws in books don't read it.
I'm on to Catching Fire, the next installment of the series, I will keep you posted on how I'm finding the book. There has been a lot of hype for Catching Fire, I just hope there isn't a repeat of last time!
Catching Fire here I come!

Collections can be print, audio, or visual materials, including maps, prints, documents, microform (e.g. microfilm/microfiche), CDs, cassettes, videotapes, DVDs, video games, e-books, audiobooks and many other types of electronic resources. The places where this material is stored include public libraries, subscription libraries, and private libraries; material can also be in digital form, stored on computers or accessible over the Internet. Libraries range in size from a few shelves of books in a small organization's library to collections of several million items in the larger national and academic libraries.

Libraries have lots of uses as you can see! You don't have to stop with books at your local library, there's: audio books, DVD's, cassettes and all sorts. SO USE YOUR LIBRARY, it is public.

I personally visit my local library every weekend to return and obtain new books, the more you read the more knowledge you gain, after all knowledge is power.

Micheal Grant has really stepped forward with his new and exciting series. The series us aimed at teenagers and adults! Even Stephen King praised the series and books, proclaiming they were simply 'phenomenal'
Summary: The series is set in a town known as Perdido Beach. When everyone above the age of fifteen vanishes into thin air it instantly makes you intrigued! Also a mysterious dome encases the teenagers, preventing any communication to the outside world. That's not all animals start to mutate, and so do some of the teenagers! Except they don't grow an extra limb they start to develop supernatural powers!
My perspective: The series isn't your normal cheesy super hero book. It's purely about survival of the fittest. Teenagers are murderd, starved or fall prey to any evil force known as the Gaiaphage. Micheal Grant also addresses: racism, sexuality, capitalism, segregation and other important key aspects. I would say it is very similar to 'Lord of The Flies' like I said; not your typical super hero book.
I 100% recommend this series
5/5
